Beginners Improv Class: Learn to improvise

This beginners course is designed to introduce you to the basics of improvised theatre in a fun and friendly environment.

What does our course involve?

Over the course of the 5 weeks, participants will be gradually introduced to performing Theatresports games and scenes, and will learn to hit the stage with confidence and playfulness.

The classes are suitable for anyone interested in performing impro, as well as those interested in improving their public speaking and creativity or expanding their theatrical toolbox.

You will learn techniques to:

  • Trust your creative impulse

  • Be present and in the moment

  • Accept and build on ideas

  • Embrace failure

All participants will be invited to demonstrate their skills at a graduation show at the end of the workshop.

Dates: 7 June - 5 July 2025

Time: Saturdays, 10am - 1pm.

Location: The Exchange, 81 Musk Avenue, Kelvin Grove

Age requirements

Our classes are primarily aimed at adults. If you are under 18, let us know and we will discuss if you can attend the class.


Your teacher - Daniel Johnston

Daniel Johnston began his improv journey with University Theatresports in 2019, later advancing through Improv Queensland’s classes in 2020. He has since become a regular performer with IQ, appearing in shows such as Heartfelt High, Murder at the Bowlo, and A Lust of Elves and Magic. His performances have spanned festivals across Brisbane, as well as inter-state in Sydney and Perth, and internationally in Singapore, Manila, and Auckland.
