Improv Queensland offers workshops for people interested in learning more about the world of improv (or impro). Our beginner’s classes will introduce you to the basics of improv in a fun and friendly environment. You can also take your improvisation further with our well regarded intermediate and advanced workshops.
Our classes mostly take place in Brisbane with occasional workshops held in parts of Queensland.
Why learn improv?
Improv is a fun, challenging art-form which teaches skills that are useful both in everyday life and performance. Improv is invaluable for actors or creatives who want to be faster on their feet and explore their creative processes. It is also valuable for non-performers, as it teaches skills relating to communication, confidence, and teamwork. Plus, it’s fun!
Why train with us?
We have been teaching people to improvise for over 16 years and have the longest-running improvised training program in Brisbane, Queensland. We have taught hundreds of people how to improvise, including actors, comedians, CEOs, doctors, barristers, miners, and teachers.
We also have Brisbane’s most experienced improvisation teachers, with our teachers generally having many years of performance and teaching under their belts.
What we teach.
Our classes teach you the key ideas and concepts which underpin improvisation. This includes how to connect with your scene partners, build on ideas, embrace the risk of failure and find your confidence on stage. Our later classes also teach skills including storytelling, character development, dramatic scenework and musical improv.
Our overall philosophy is to help students to discover their inherent creativity and find the approach which works for them.
Where to start.
The best place to start is our beginners classes. We have a tried and tested curriculum which provides students of all experience levels an excellent introduction to our philosophy and approach to improvisation.
We also run taster sessions which give you a chance to meet our teachers and experience some of what our classes have to offer.
