Beginner improv classes

Your journey starts here…

Our beginners course introduces you to basics of improvised theatre in a fun and friendly environment. Our classes will help you to build confidence, improve your communication skills and boost your creativity.

Taught by our experienced teachers, our beginner’s curriculum our classes will teach core improv skills including connection, teamwork, trusting your ideas and learning to embrace failure.

If you want to see what improv is all about first, we also offer free taster classes. These let you meet our teachers, experience improv first hand and decide if the classes are right for you.

Our intermediate improv classes

Your next steps

Our intermediate classes are designed to expand on your improv skills. Our classes will teach you how how to tell stories, create characters, use physicality and status, and learn the classic theatresports format.

The skills you learn are valuable for both for experience performers (including actors, comedians and clowns) and for those looking to use the skills in other areas of their life.

Advanced & specialty classes

Challenge yourself

We offer a range of advanced and specialty classes to help refine and expand your improv skills. These classes are taught specifically with performance in mind, and will teach you how to use character and relationships to create engaging scenework, how to be comfortable exploring both comedic and dramatic moments, and how to build a long-form improvised show.

We also teach occasional speciality classes which focus on skills such as improv music and physicality.

These classes build on previous work taught so completing our intermediate classes is a pre-requisite.

Social Theatresports

Looking to further develop your improv skills and show them off in front of an audience? The Theatresports Social Club may just be the opportunity you're looking for!
Our social theatresports program combines monthly workshops with one of our experienced teachers with a theatresports (or short-form show opportunity). This is a great way to get time on stage while also continuing to grow and develop your skills in a workshop environment.

Social theatresports is available to students who have completed at least two intermediate workshops.

Improv Queensland ensemble and associates

The IQ Ensemble is our auditioned company of performers who train and create together year-round. They're the team behind our monthly comedy show, SNAP!, as well as our major festival productions and special performances.

The pathway into the Ensemble is through our auditioned Associates Program. This year-long program brings together a small group of experienced improvisers to work with our most senior teachers, developing stronger performance skills, deeper artistic instincts, and a more advanced understanding of the craft alongside other dedicated performers.

Places in the Associates Program are limited, but we encourage anyone with the passion and commitment to audition.
