Basic requirEments

Call time: 5:00 pm

Doors: 7:00pm

Show: 7:30pm

Finish: 8:30 - 9:00pm

Dress: Dress nicely - long pants or dress, nice shirt or t-shirt.

We have an early call time to allow us to check-in, warm up and practice the scenes for the night. This is our replacement for a rehearsal so its important that you make it on time.

Prior to the show, you’ll be asked to familiarise yourself with the game and scene list and suggest additional short-form games that spark your interest.

Front of house

If you are FOH for the show, we ask that you arrive by 6:50pm. You will also need to download the humantix app for your phone. This will allow you to check off people as they arrive and take payments.

You can find details about how to do this here: https://help.humanitix.com/en/articles/8950925-check-in-your-guests-with-the-humanitix-scanning-app

Show Runner

This person is responsible for ensuring the show smoothly on the night. Tasks include:

  • Making sure we have all necessary props and signage (for example, hat, slips of paper with games on that, playbooks, bell, SNAP sign, blue tooth speaker to play acknowledgement to country and house music). Wade has most of this stuff and will arrange to get it to you.

  • liaising with venue on arrival to open the space and manage any venue queries

  • Checking space is set up correctly (musician, tables, lighting)

  • Running warm up & show briefing

  • Assisting the FOH person to get set up

  • Making the decision to start the show

  • checking we have cleared up the space properly before leaving

MC

The MC is primarily responsible for the show introduction and audience warm-up, when to end the show and whether to select particular scenes during the show (eg the MC may decide its time for a song game, or an open scene).

Show run order

  • Performers begin backstage in the entrance area.

  • Play acknowledgment pf country over blue-tooth speaker

  • Muso plays intro music

  • MC enters

    • welcomes the crowd to the show

    • warms up the crowd

    • explains the shows concept (we select sheets of paper which tell us what scenes or games to do)

    • introduce the players and musicians

    • introduce the first game (this will be selected ahead of time).

  • Scenes can be called down with the counter bell or ‘And scene’ etc.

  • When a scene ends, performers take turns to enter stage and select a scene from the hat. They read the scene out and any performers who want to do the scene (including the performer reading) yell ‘snap’.

  • Players are to take turns selecting games but the MC is ultimately responsible for making sure the show runs smoothly and so may need to jump in more often if needed.

  • Not all peformers who snapped need to be in a scene and you can join a scene if you haven’t snapped.

  • If the MC thinks the show needs a particular kind of scene (eg music or genre or open scene) they can either announce this or pretend it was selected from the hat.

  • The MC will announce the final game (which will also be pre-selected).

  • Once the final game is finished, the MC will call the cast to stage, do thank yous, plug upcoming shows and workshops, and finish the show.
