Celebrating our students
Last Friday night was our first Student Celebration night of the year (thanks, Covid)! And it went off with an absolute bang! We had a wonderful crowd for the show of over 70 people who almost filled the Ron Hurley Theatre in the Seven Hills hub.
Our student celebration nights are an opportunity for our students, who have just completed their classes, to get up on stage and try out their new skills in front of an audience of friends and family. Friday’s show featured newly graduation students from our beginners class (many of whom have never been on stage before) and our intermediate students from our Theatresports and Improv Games class.
Our beginner students were first up and they did a fantastic job with their teacher, Leica, guiding them through scenes and games they had learnt in their class. Students jumped up joyfully to give the scenes a go, and we saw scenes on everything from jealous confectionary in a candy shop, to a sit-stand-knee scene in a board and a mob of crazed chickens. The students did a fantastic show which was fun, physical and creative.
Our beginner’s were followed by our Theatresports class. This class has learnt how to perform Theatresports, which is one of the most common forms of improv theatre in the world. The show started with some fun, all in games were the teams demonstrated key improv concepts - like acceptance and blocking - and was followed by the Theatresports match itself. The teams did fantastic scenes exploring emotion, genre and physicaliy before the Dipstick Lipsticks finally took out the coveted grand prize.
Thank you to everyone who came along to make it a special night. It is always special to see performers take their first steps on stage as an improviser and this show was no exception.
