June Drop-In Class: Genre Inspired World Building

  • Improv Queensland 81 Musk Avenue Kelvin Grove, QLD, 4059 Australia (map)

Teacher of the Month: Amy Driscoll

Topic of the Month: Genre Inspired World Building

Through a combination of hands-on exercises and group discussions, you'll explore the world of genre and learn how to create rich, immersive environments that will transport you and your audience to another realm.

For this workshop, we'll focus on building a world inspired by the fantastical creatures, landscapes, and lore of tabletop RPGs. You'll explore different genres, tropes and learn how to incorporate elements of these into performances.

By the end of this workshop, you'll have started to pull together the tools needed to build recognisable genre scenes with improvised twists that are sure to captivate your audience and transport them to another world.

About your Teacher: Amy Driscoll took her first impro class with Improv QLD (then ImproMafia) in 2011 and hasn't stopped. She has represented Improv QLD at national and international events and performed in multiple shows including Hooking Up, Animated the Improvised Musical, Lord of the Thrones, Queensland Theatresports Championships and What the Butler F#*ked. She made her directorial debut in 2018 with Anywhere Theatre Festival's True Food Confessions and is currently the Treasurer of Improv QLD.
