Improv Queensland Reflects on 2024 at End of Year Shindig

Recap by Liz Talbot

Four lucky winners were gifted their very own Awkward Handshake Picture With The Manager.

On a humid and rainy night at the end of November, after a sold-out iteration of SNAP! Improv at The Raven, Improv Queensland’s familiar faces gathered to reflect on 2024 - a year of firsts, of great leaps forward, and of romance & romantasy.

Heartfelt thanks must go out to Liam for overseeing the voting process and hosting the Awards segment of the Christmas Party - allowing for Improv Queensland President Wade to gift each of the Award-winners their very own Awkward Handshake Picture With The Manager.

The Genghis Khan Award for Best Improviser

For the improviser who you have most enjoyed watching onstage this year and who best demonstrates the skills of creativity, commitment and impro spirit.

Drew Lochrie

Drew’s performances in Scandalton and A Lust of Elves and Magic cement his place as the Romantic Lead of Improv Queensland. The community have spoken and the message is clear - improvising with somebody as supportive and talented as Drew is an honour and a delight.

The Goodwin Award for Most Supportive Player

The performer you most enjoyed playing with over the year who represents the values of listening, supporting and accepting.

Becky Gethen

Becky brings warmth and passion to the stage, whether it be in Singapore with Raising the Bard or at Pip Theatre’s Toucan Club with Scandalton. Her offers are strong and her uplifting moves mean that nobody ever feels lost when they share a stage with Becky.

The Knott Award for the Best New Performer

This award is for the best new performer who began their impro journey in the past two years.

Ella Humphries (pictured here in character as Scott D)

Improv Queensland has swiftly embraced Ella as an incredible performer whose performances reflect the skill and insight of somebody far, far older than-are you kidding me? She’s how old? She was born when I’d already graduated high school?! And she’s already this good?!

The Foundation President's Award for Best Show

For the best Improv Queensland show you saw or performed in this year.

A Lust of Elves and Magic

Earning an Anywhere Festival gong for comedy in 2024 was A Lust of Elves and Magic - our romantasy show performed at The Raven, which is fast becoming Improv Queensland’s favourite bar hangout and performance space. By a considerable margin, voters in the Improv Queensland Awards have recognised Lust as their favourite show of the year.
