Audition notice: Associates Program

  • Jeays Street Community Centre 12 Jeays St Bowen Hills Australia (map)

Improv Queensland is holding open auditions for its Artistic Associate Program for the IQ Ensemble (IQE).

IQE is the main performance hub through which Improv Queensland develops and rehearses its shows for festivals, touring, and corporate performances. These shows are created by the IQE performers who undertake high-level and ongoing training throughout the year.

IQ has produced multiple award-winning shows in immersive theatre, cabaret and improvisation, and their work has been dubbed by reviewers as ‘challenging, riveting and absolutely hysterical’ and ‘absolute theatrical genius’. Its members have performed and taught all over Australia and the world, including in New York, Warsaw, Manila, Calgary, Auckland, Wellington, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Townsville.

The program

The Artistic Associate Program is the primary pathway for performing and developing shows with IQ through the Ensemble, and it is designed for a small and dedicated cohort, allowing for personalised feedback and growth to be prioritised. The program for people with a range of artistic backgrounds, including, but not limited to:

  • Experienced improvisers looking to expand and develop their craft

  • Students taking on the program in parallel with tertiary acting and drama qualifications

  • Actors looking to cross-skill and develop their improvisation skills.

The program lasts for approximately one year, during which the associates will receive:

  • Specialised improvisation training with their cohort

  • Access to the regular IQE training

  • Personal feedback and development

  • Performances with their cohort

  • Opportunities to perform in IQ local and touring shows

  • The ability to apply to become a full member of the IQE at the end of the program.

Who can audition?

Anyone who has a background in improvisation, acting or other performance skills can apply. It is not necessary to have a background in improvisation, though it is important to note that the audition will involve improvisation activities and games, so a willingness to attempt those is necessary. There are no other requirements to audition, and previous participants have come from a wide variety of ages, backgrounds and occupations.

When is the audition?

There is one main audition date, which is Sunday, 7 December 2025, in Bowen Hills. Use the link below to express interest and show what times you are available. If you cannot make the date, there is a section to note if you are interested but cannot make that date. We will endeavour to do a make-up audition for those who cannot make the date, but unfortunately, we will not be able to accommodate everyone. You will be contacted with an audition time before the date.

Program Costs and Scholarships

The Artistic Associate Program has a cost of $450 for the year, which is used to cover the costs of running the program. However, we do not want cost to be a barrier for any participant, so some scholarships and half scholarships will be available to apply for straightforwardly.
